PL1 Portable Lamp
The latest idea from Memphis Design Group founding member George Sowden, the PL1 is a small rechargeable lamp composed of a glossy stand and a contrast-coloured shade in soft silicone which spreads colour, character and comfortable light.
The light has three brightness settings, controlled by tapping the top of the lamp. Supplied with a USB cable for charging, the battery will give 4 to 10+ hours of cordless illumination depending on the degree of brightness selected. Or leave plugged in if preferred.
The idea behind the SHADES collection of lamps took shape in 2020 when Sowden discovered the extraordinary light diffusion of soft silicone; a non-toxic material that is easy to clean, stands up to impact and stays looking good over time.

Integrated touch-activated step dimmer – simply touch the top to adjust.
A USB cable is provided for charging the battery.
The life of a fully-charged battery is between 4 and 10 hours, depending on the light intensity selected It takes around 3 hours for a full charge.
The lamp can be used for as long as you like when it’s connected to the USB power source.
This portable lamp can be used indoors or outdoors in dry weather.
Environmental Responsibility
With recent EU proposals regarding the RIGHT TO REPAIR, recyclability of materials and environmental considerations, the family of SOWDEN Portable Lamps has been designed with environmental responsibility in mind – the SOWDEN LED DISC, a light source that can be unscrewed and changed, and the 18650 2600mAh lithium-ion rechargeable batteries can be easily replaced when necessary.
